I'm new to this app and I'm not 100% sure how this works. I don't know if I'm in the right place? Does anyone else have a massive amount of weight to lose? I'd like to drop 53 kgs (approx. 117 lbs).
Let me introduce myself...I'm 40 years old, female, and I've been overweight most of my life. Although this (128 kg or 282 lbs) is the most that I've ever weighed. I remember telling myself when I was younger that I'd never let myself get over 91 kgs (200 lbs), yet here I am almost 136 kgs (300 lbs)!
I've attempted diets many times in my life, dropping quite a bit of weight sometimes, only to quickly regain it all. My issue seems to be staying away from the wrong types of food, because I really have a sweet tooth and I love cakes and ice creams. Also, I'm not much one for exercise and I'd really like to become more active, as I know it's so unhealthy to be sedentary.
Recently I had a giant health scare (unrelated to my weight) and I was in the hospital and needed emergency surgery. This opened my eyes to what I was doing to myself as I heard the doctors discussing all around me what their options were during surgery because I was so obese. I could barely fit in the wheelchair the nurses pushed me around in and I could tell that they were straining to push me.
I don't want that for myself. I don't want to be talked about like I'm some oddity or become a burden to someone because of my weight.
I got myself a fitness watch, started drinking only water (except the occasional morning coffee), and I've stopped snacking inbetween meals.
So is there anyone else out there who has to lose a large amount of weight or has lost a large amount? Any tips to share? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you if you read all of that! 🤗

Best thing I have done is meal plan ahead of time, I also put everything I'm eating on here good or bad I count the amount of calories I'm taking, keep some healthy snacks handy incase you feel the need for something no add sugar jelly is good 5cals a pot, fruit, nuts, I get fibre one chocolate fudge brownie for when I need chocolate taste.

I had 40kg to lose at the beginning of my journey. Started by swapping my mains plate for a starter plate and not having seconds, changed chocolate for apples and going for long walks. I recorded everything I ate, to make sure I don't go over my calories, I meal prep and freeze it, so I can't change the portion sizes. Sparkpeople.com is really good for low calorie healthy meals. Once the weight started coming off, I dusted off my bike and started cycling to work. I have been doing this since the end of May, have lost 14kg and my cravings are completely gone, having seconds now makes me queasy. It may sound a bit weird but when I used to get the cravings, I'd take the chocolate, get naked and stand in front of the mirror and try to eat it. 🤣. That really helped me reach for an apple.

I think one great way to start is not drinking your calories away, so well done with only drinking the water & coffee! it's so easy to drink fizzy drinks & juices all the time which take up a big % of your RDI for calories. Good luck on your journey and everyone on this app will be here to support you! 🙌

it may well be worth you looking into keto as people with a lot to lose do very well on it. fantastic that you are trying. I've tried every diet going over the years but with keto you aren't hungry once you are adapted to this way of eating. Dr Ken berry and Dr Eric berge five loads of advice on YouTube plus you can look on diet doctor.com . good luck. loads of lovely friendly people on this group 🤗

well done for all uv achieved so far👏👏 u will get lots of help and advice on here! lol@smoothtoffee eating naked...great idea!! I have been learning about reversing my behaviours and retraining my brain, I'm an emotional eater but I'm trying a new trick. Put an old bobble or elastic band on ur wrist and everytime u go to the fridge to snack, ping it hard onto ur wrist a couple of times,,old psychological trick, really works!

I have at least 70lbs to lose, and that would still only take me down to 14st! There’s lots of support and help from people here, some with less to lose, many with more, you are not alone. I struggle staying away from carbs, love pizza, Chinese, Indian, pasta, roasts... You get the idea, and on top of that I used to drink like a fish. I was 0.2lb under 20st when I decided to have a serious attemp at losing weight, only really been here (this time) for two weeks. Also agree high protein low carb diet will help keep you full, and when you get used to it after a week or so, you’d be amazed at just how full you can feel on relatively low calories compared to the 3,500 calorie carb packed day to day eating. Welcome to your journey 👍

I'm completely with you, I started at 460lbs I think, I've lost 27 so far. Fed up of always being "the fat one" and not being able to do normal things because I won't fit in the chairs. Good luck with your journey, I wish you every success

Hey! Recently I managed to shed a lot of weigh and my faverite tips are to slightly decrease portion sizes by using smaller plates, also soups and salads become my best friend and they don’t need to be boring as so much can be added to them!! Another thing that helped me was cutting out hidden or ‘empty’ calories, these were high calorie foods or dressings that didn’t really add anything to my meal except unneeded calories, butter in my sandwich’s for example or milk in my smoothies.

welcome, you are certainly in a right place being here. I've not had the weight loss you want but i have found the people on here to be supportive and encouraging whatever your goal. its all about wanting something and it sounds like you have come to a point where motivation is running things. you will get to your goal if you are honest with your diary and use it as a resource to look for points to improve. I found looking at the calorie content in food and thinking would that actually be a filling meal for those calories really helped (2 pork pies 500+ calories... no thankyou!). I had a friend who would plate up as normal, than halve everything as a way to reduce portions. We all are here for you. good luck x

Hi I'm Gemma and I started my journey at 301 so close to you and if you look at my weigh ins I am slowly losing a few lbs each week...YOU ARE DEFINITELY IN THE RIGHT PLACE...everyone here is supportive and no one judges as we are all here for the same thing...you have taken the first step and have asked for support and help...im happy to buddy up with you if you need a fellow female to talk to...for me I just take the simple way...smaller portions...and be more food aware...i still eat all the foods I enjoy and I walk alot more but I also love the gym so I do 4 mornings a week and two classes..not everyone like gyms so there are lots of other ways to get more active you just need to find what you enjoy and work with that....Good luck and remember there will be ups and downs x x

Hi, what a nice message which has got everybody contributing and sharing valuable tips!! ive been on here about 3 weeks now i think, my only tip is to think about your relationship with food. are you eating because you are hungry or for another reason? many years ago food used to be eaten to survive and now food is used for many other reasons. for me i am rarely eating because i am hungry, i eat because i am bored, or sad, or hormonal, or happy or poorly.. you get the gist, but you will find what works for you. good luck. rach xx
