HR is useless. But you know that, cause you're in sales! Let's go! Ring that cash register, baby! #goodluck

Thank you everyone! It's been years since I've had to go on front of HR. it's all scripted now. Any advice? I know they are "looking" for answers, I just don't know what. All the googling in the world won't prepare you for an HR brainwashed with a masters in HR.. haha. I just hope it isn't an "entry level college grad job" .. If it is, and I get offered, I.might hesitate but take it for the MASSIVE financial networking exposure and move on when I learn as much as I can.

1. Write out your reason for leaving your previous job and spin it positive.
2. Write out and ask your own questions - why do they like working there? What is the culture like? What qualities are they looking for in this position ? How do you fit what they are looking for? (This is a risky question, the answer may be "you don't fit") Why did the previous person leave?
Good luck!

Be sure to tell them any requirements YOU have. For instance, I told my boss (small engineering firm) that I need to eat on time. And if he wants me to wear a tie every day, he has to pay an additional $10,000/yr. I HATE ties, partly because 19"-20" collar shirts assume you have a 56"-60" waistline (which I do not), and I get sick (vomiting) headaches if I don't eat on time. It took a while for him to realize I was serious about the eating; after he saw me get sick one trip out of town he remembers better. Good luck with your interview!

I've been trying to get out of the 170s, too. the holidays suck, so I'm trying to just stay where I am until New year's.

An extra 10,000 for a tie, that's great. I'll keep that in mind. If they make me wear a tie it's gonna be an extra 50,000. I'm just trying to figure out how to summarize my previous sales into numbers . I'm just gonna have to bullshit my way through it ha ha. I have a hard time quantifying my expertise. in an interview you can't look weak or you can't think you're weak.

Good luck! HR weenies are looking to disqualify you, whereas the Hiring Manager is looking to hire.

Gz9gig I used some of your suggestions for the first interview. The guy was in frickin Serbia! So, it was really an ez interview. The tough one is Friday, unless they already decided to hire me because I was a referral.

If you get to the hiring manager, maybe less of the soft / culture questions, but definitely ask what qualities are they looking for; what made the previous person successful or not; and how do you fit. I hope you get hired!
