I'm an emotional eater - it helps being aware of the issue - good luck with finding a support group!

there are supportive people here - A local over eaters anonymous group should be in your area and might help.

Try to get in the habit of making yourself go for a walk, or look at an inspiring picture or outfit that you want to wear, whenever you get the urge to over-eat. It sounds odd but sometimes brushing my teeth makes me drop the urge to eat. You can do this!

I overeat too. For me it is stress. If I stressed I eat and eat. I hate it and get really mad at myself. Lately I have been knitting or crocheting instead. If I feel the need to eat I go pick up my project and work on it until the feeling passes. Not sure if this would help you and also to be honest I am not sure how long it will work for me but 6 months so far.

Since I am strictly on keto, the "need for sweet" is gone...

I'm an emotional/compulsive/stress eater. I've found that if there is significant stress in my life and I give in to eating anything like cake, candy, ice cream, etc. that it starts an addictive cycle I simply have no control over until I've eaten enough to feel sick, and then in a couple hours when that feeling is gone I can start all over with the addictive eating. Once started the cycle can be hard to break. So I agree with Draglist on the carbs. Get away from sugar and refined carbs. LCHF is a good option, I'm doing it now, but I've also found much success in just cutting out the sugars and refined carbs, and setting a daily target for calories, fat, protein, carbs, and fiber. Good luck to you.

Thank you all for your advice. I’m looking for a group for over eaters and I’m going to look into this Keto thing. And actually the Brushing my teeth thing when I have cravings has actually helped strangely enough. I don’t want surgery cause that’s not fixing the problem. I need to stay off the carbs and off the sugars. It’s very hard with a limited budget and even harder when money is so tight you have to visit a food bank. Been hard since I have custody of my sister. But trying to save money, and not gain weight is so hard. I appreciate all the advice! Thank you everyone!

She won’t be allowed surgery if there is an underlying emotional issue anyway. At least not in my hospital program. They make us be cleared by a shrink. LOL 🤷🏻♀️One of the things that may help on this as well is to get on a steady probiotic every day and get your digestive system in balance. If you have been abusing sugar like most of us, your gut is out of balance. If you feed it the right balance for awhile you will actually crave sugar less.💁🏻♀️

I am with you. Not for the same reasons, but definitely addicted to food. Definitely a binge eater. It’s amazing how much I can actually throw down. I can easily eat what others would struggle to finish. It sucks, but you’re not alone.

I have a similar issue. I find it helps to stop to remind myself that I'm an adult now and no one can take my food away even if they wanted to. I can't say if that would be useful to you though.
