Goal setting question: for those of us that need to lose alot of weight (like me), does it make more sense to set smaller goals here on FS? My first real goal is to get under 300 pounds, then decide on goals after that. Somedays, my goal weight looks like a far off dream. Any thoughts?

Liv lite I think it's different for everyone. for me I set smaller goals over a 2 or 3 month period. wneh I get there I can adjust my life style for continued weight loss or maintenance . also then it doesn't feel so daunting sometimes. but others may see it differently.

In my opinion small goals may seem more achievable and keep you motivated more , because you will be able to achieve them faster which will make you feel better and good and not wanting to give up

Thank you Amie & Skyheart! Yes, I think I will reset my goal weight based on the action plan idea of SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant (or Realistic) and Time-based. Let's go Weight Loss!!!!! woooohoooooo

I feel 1000% better with the new goal weight! I added in my true goal weight in my Bio, so feels great! Amazing how a tiny change like that can lift the soul :)

That is the Best advice! My little 10 pound successes have kept me going for a whole year! Not quite there yet but only four pounds away from the next 'little' goal. Keep going Liv Lite!

I've lost 98lbs... my goal 16 months ago was to lose 100, but that was the long term goal. All I've ever focused on was 10 lbs at a time. Lose 10 lbs and reset my macros. 10 lbs at a time is a great victory and keeps you pushing for the next 10. It's like running a marathon, 26 miles can be intimidating but 1 mile at a time adds up and before you know it you're at the finish line! You can do it!

I needed to lose 40 kg’s before my knee surgery in September. Started at the end of January and have just hit 20 kg’s lost and working on the next 20 kg’s! I don’t count calories per say but changed my eating regime to a intermittent fasting with block fasts to mix it up. U-tube Dr Jason Fung MD from Toronto or intermittent fasting and you will find great data. Dr Fung is a kidney specialist. Oh, no real exercise is performed just garden work and house work.

I like the 2 goal approach - have an idea in mind of where you want to be long term, but I look at 5 lb increments - get down to the next 5 lbs. Your small increments probably depend where you are in your journey - the longer you've been working at it, the slower it is. I also take body measurements and have goals that are strictly about working out - nothing to do with my weight or measurements. If I meet those goals, I am healthier and taking care of myself. I also focus on doing things that make me happy and fill my soul. It all falls under self care: nourishing food, physical health, mental health. Don't forget to look back and see how far you've come from where you started - we sometimes forget to do that and it helps keep us going.
