I eat most of these flowers on the list. Especially nice in salads. I use so much purslane that I grow it myself. There are many others, like nopales that are standards for me. I learned a lot about vegetarian eating from my neighbor who is East Indian and eats strictly vegetarian.

I’ve wanted to try eating flowers. Some of them look really pretty. Thanks for the info! Now to find a store around here that has them.

SolarFlare3– the dandelion I get from peoples yards, the nasturtium grows wild everywhere here in California., I actually use amazon for my hibiscus although you can buy it at a Sprouts, Whole Foods and most Hispanic markets. The purslane is probably growing in the cracks of your sidewalk (I found the actual plants at Home Depot and grow them myself) Lavender grows wild around here and everyone in my neighborhood grows it. Many of my neighbors grow curry and tea leaves for their ethnic cooking so I have easy access to those. Same with the honeysuckle— lots of that around here. I go hiking a lot and find wild radish. Read up on these plants and see if they might be more easily available than you might think.. purslane and hibiscus, and Nopales have positive health benefits and have been used by indigenous peoples to treat high BP and diabetes for centuries. I did the medical research on the claims for those plants and found that there are many cited supportive articles in the literature. I have neither of those issues and I don’t have anyone in my world who has these afflictions who are willing to eat them. Oh well.

I did have dandelion once. I saw it growing and wanted to taste it. It really wasn’t bad. Some people thought I was afflicted with pica but I only tried it because I had heard they were being used to make teas and jellies and all kinds of stuff. That was years ago. I was planning on having a flowerbed this will really help with my selection

SolarFlare3- the favorite thing that my neighbor makes is sautéed radish LEAVES. SAUTEES in ghee, than mixes a small amount of garbanzo bean flour . OMG so good. She has no recipes, she works strictly off of taste and memory. She makes things for me all the time, especially when I was still working. I would come home at night after working 18 hours and she would show up on my door step with food. Wonderful people.
