The US government is now preparing for 18 months of the coronavirus pandemic, including multiple waves of illnesses. The ominous announcement comes after cases in the US spiked 40% in just 24 hours. About 9,000 Americans have now tested positive for the virus, and at least 149 have died. Singapore also reported its biggest single-day jump in cases, and South Korea, which has been watching the number of infections slow with reserved optimism, is now seeing a new spike in cases and clusters. Meanwhile, India is bracing for the arrival of 26,000 people from the Persian Gulf region, mostly blue-collar workers returning home from labor contracts in Gulf countries. The new arrivals will be quarantined for 14 days. And there is some brighter news out of China: The country has reported no new local infections for the first time since the pandemic began months ago, marking a critical step in containment. Follow

18 months seems realistic. Until there is a vaccine it is going to ebb and flow across continents and states. As areas deem themselves to be in recovery travel and isolation restrictions will open up and it will just take on infected person to transport it back into that area. This isn't like the flu - which is primarily seasonal. Pray for the best and prepare for the worst. Take care Kenna !

Virus continues to mutate rapidly. It is possible to have it more than once. Since this virus is of animal origin, humans have no innate immunity to it.. we need to prepare for a long haul. A couple of drugs are being worked with as a possible treatment and/or to aid in recovery. One is an old malaria drug that was experimented with and used in some of the earliest AIDS cocktails. It is also used once in a while in the treatment of lupus. It seems it may be showing some promise against this virus. Time will tell.

Yes, it will be around "for good" now. But vaccines are already being tested, and drug therapies too. I predict within a month, things will be back to normal.

We are already testing vaccines and anti viral treatments, the "next wave" will be barely a ripple

I can't take this. One week in and I am losing it. We are so beyond blessed in the U.S. that this is wreaking havoc on my life. I need to go to the gym and church and restaurants. For as much as i hate people, I still want to be around them once in awhile. I think 18 months sounds ridiculous- or that's what I am going to tell myself.

Maybe the cure for this is tanning beds,, Is Mexico free of this virus? if yes ,then there you go..we all should go to Mexico to kill this virus,, would that be something.

It is affecting all of us. Many changes in lifestyle. I am trying to adapt to working from home while the company works on system crashes in doing so. They have tested the system in small batches never with lots of us working from home! Definitely a learning curve. I just pray thAt none of my friends or family contract if.

The top of my post states that I initially saw this on CNN — a press conference, and then multiple repeats both on the news and on the digital media. A piece of potentially encouraging news tonight is that they are trialing an existing antiviral that was originally used to treat malaria. It is not a vaccine and it is not a cure but they think it could possibly diminish the death tole considerably.. several potential pieces of encouraging news out there. This is history making stuff. Watch and listen.

So. Korea used chloroquine to act as a "gate" to get zinc into cells and it was the zinc that was killing the virus at a cellular level. Zinc cannot enter at the cellular level without a gate. So, I am wondering about this information although it changes hourly.

P.S.There is no vaccine for malaria. 405,000 people died of malaria in 2018.
