Journal de Yippee Ki Yay, 30 mars 24

I don't weigh very often. It's been two and a half months since my last weigh-in. It's a big ordeal for me to weigh. Three people are required to pull it off. It takes me (to operate the Hoya lift buttons), my two teenage sons (to operate three scales each), and my wife (to record all our activity. I wanted to be sure to weigh this weekend.

This weekend is a major goal reached for me. Two years ago, this weekend I was in the hospital and was told by a doctor there was no way I would live another two years. I had gone through pneumonia, two surgeries and COVID before landing in the third hospital for the fifth time in the previous two years. Somewhere in all that turmoil I had managed to acquire congestive heart failure that didn't play nice with lymphedema and caused me to quickly blow up to 650 pounds (my hospital intake weight).

I was nuts. On 6 liters of oxygen, I still registered less than 80% and watched cartoons dance on the walls oblivious to where I was at. My wife was told I would not likely survive, and she should start making arrangements. Over the next 10 days they pulled 125 pounds of fluid out of me with intravenous diuretics and a catheter. A few days later they were convinced I could transition to diuretic and potassium pills so I could go home. I checked out of the hospital weighing 525 pounds.

I was blessed. The attending physician when I hit the emergency room was a family friend from Church. My wife had sit his children when he and his wife (both doctors) had to work those crazy 12 and 16 hour shifts those young doctors work. Because of this he would tell us when he would switch between doctor and friend mode to give us his honest thoughts.
At checkout he gave me three months to live. He said I should get everything in order that I could to reduce the burden on those I love. I ask if I might survive a year. With much reluctance he said maybe. So, I argued for two years. He just shut me down and said, "No way".

This is two years later. I'm still here. Major goal reached. I've lost another 90 pounds on top of the original 125 making a total of 215 pounds down. I went from daily visits at home with Doctors, Physicians Assistants and Nurses upon getting out of the hospital to one about every six weeks. My vitals amaze them. O2, BP, kidney, etc. are all normal or doing much better than expected. Many prayers prayed. Many prayers answered.

In the past two years I have seen my youngest daughter graduate, my middle daughter get married, and the birth of my seventh grandchild.

Next goal: I want to see my two youngest sons graduate.

I would gladly gain 100 if I could take it from you. You are an inspiration and I truly hope for the best for you. I would have given up 10 times over if I had to go through what you have survived.

That photo gave my heart a hug. 🩷 How special it is to see you with your sweet grand baby. Praise God for answered prayers. I respect how hard you have worked to get your weight down safely. Isn’t being a grandparent simply the best? Have a special Easter and keep on the track that is clearly working for you. 🙏🏼☀️

Yippee my F.I.L. Was very much in the same physical condition and weight as you. He never could get the weight off. 550 pounds, medical event would happen, he would lose 100-150 pounds and then lose momentum and up and down every time. He left this world 9 years ago this year at 68 years old. My hubs grieves for him and misses him daily. He was dearly loved and the family unit was never the same. He held the family together. I actually got choked up reading this and wishing my hubs could have had the fight in his daddy that you do. Im so proud of you and inspired. Please keep posting your journey, keep fighting for your life and in doing so the lives of those who love you. One is never the same when a beloved person passes and it could have been prevented. Prayers your way yippee.

Yippee Ki Yay, that really quite awesome friend I'm really happy to hear that you're doing so well. It is my hope that you continue to do so well so your family can have you love and teach them. And that baby, oh my ❤️ its so 🥰 precious 💕. My uncle was a similar success story. My uncle was just fine one day and started falling down the stairs the next. When reaching the emergency room he was given an MRI and diagnosed with a fatal brain tumor and given less than 6 weeks to live. He surprised both doctors and the world by out living that current world record by almost 6 years. Now that record has been broken again luckily, and hopefully we'll continue to be broken by many others. I love hearing it when people are able to change the expectations for the better when it comes to medical crises. please continue to do so that we will put our faith in you and continue to see that sweet baby's smiling face.

WOW! I have so many mixed emotions stirring from reading your post. Firstly, to GOD be ALL the Glory!!! AMEN & AMEN! Next, your story is my "why" to healthy living. I may not be in a big body shell but deep down inside I knew I wasn't healthy or anywhere remotely close to living my best life. I've got generations to see and celebrate! I came across Dr. Bobby Price on YouTube and I've never been the same. All the information I knew to do but hadn't committed to suddenly made sense. I celebrate your greatness and can't wait to see your next achievement! Victory & Blessings are our only options moving forward! 😇

@Russellc64: Yours are the kindest words conceivable. A short time after my middle daughter became engaged, we had a disagreement that I decided to fast and pray about. It hit me physically like a ton of bricks. On the 3rd day my medical helper showed up between every other appointment to take my vitals and beg me to stop fasting or I would die. About the 5th visit that day, actually late night by then, he begged to stop. It had been three full days (Jewish style) so I was finally able to hear him when he said. "Look, if you will eat just one piece of toast then I will start fasting for as long as you need while you pray. I fast, you pray." Those words tore me up. I took the toast and told him not to worry about it the fast was over... Your words impacted me every bit as much as his. There is no greater love than that one person would give their life to save another. But offering to walk in their shoes for them has got to be close. Thank you.
